Compassionate care for frontline staff
Inside our General Intensive Care Unit our staff care for the sickest COVID patients
Thanks to the generosity of one of our supporters, staff working in Intensive Care are being offered a new package of psychological support.

Frontline staff in our General Intensive Care Unit have been looking after patients with the worst cases of Covid-19. The number of seriously ill patients we received over the winter put extra pressure on our team, and some have experienced stress, anxiety and PTSD.
Thanks to the generosity of one of our supporters, staff can now access Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, a form of therapy that’s proven to treat PTSD. They are also being offered mindfulness-based techniques to decrease stress or anxiety.
Local experts from intensive care, psychology and psychiatry have been involved in developing this mixed-method approach which, if successful, could be rolled out nationally.
Thanks to your continued support, we’ve also raised £400,200 of the £1 million needed to kit out the new Unit. Work was delayed with the onset of the third wave of the pandemic. With your continued support, we now hope that the new Unit will be fully completed and open in 2022.
